It also sounds like you may not be breathing correctly. Make sure you inhale through your nose on the way down and exhale from your mouth coming back up. Also, like Andrew said, watch some videos on proper form - make sure that your body is lined up correctly. If your straining your neck holding it up or allowing your head to fall, you may not be getting the proper amount of oxygen you need.

This is a very interesting question:) I have never heard of anyone having their throat hurt while doing push ups! If I had to hazard a guess I would say perhaps you are straining a lot which is resulting in you tensing up your neck muscles so much they start to hurt or impinge on your throat. Try watching some videos on youtube from professionals on how to do a proper push up, as you technique might be the problem also leading to straining etc. if it continues be sure to go see your doctor as there could be something more serious going on.
