Thumbs up Thumbs down

I believe diffusion refers to the process by which gases diffuse into and out of the blood in this case. this process is called external respiration.

Oxygen will diffuse into the blood because the blood coming back to the lungs from the heart is deoxygenated and the oxygen will move from area of high concentration to an area of low concentration.

the same is true of CO2 except it is reversed. the blood coming back to the lung from the heart is high in CO2 relative the the inspired air in the lung. So because of this the CO2 in the blood will diffuse out into the lungs where its concentrations are lower.

It is hard to explain it simply and in so few words, hope this helps:)
